Dr. Susan Welsch
Dr. Susan Welsch established the Allendale Veterinary Hospital in 2004. She earned her BS from Rutgers University in 1986, summa cum laude. She was accepted at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her DVM in 1991. Dr. Welsch did her internship at the Animal Medical Center in NYC and has practiced small animal medicine in central NJ, Boston, and Ramsey NJ prior to her establishing Allendale Veterinary.
Dr Welsch brings over 25 years of practice expertise and knowledge to Allendale Veterinary. In addition to general medicine, Dr. Welsch has a special interest in canine and feline ophthalmology.
Dr. Welsch and her husband John live in Rockland County with their two German Wirehaired pointers, Abby and Emmy Lou. When not at the hospital, you can find them hiking the Appalachian Trail and boating on the Hudson River.
Dr. Teresa Izar
At an early age, Dr. Teresa Izar spent 9 years exploring and discovering all of the different animals that lived in the jungles of the Sierra Leone, Africa. Her childhood experience never left her. When she returned back to the United States, she attended Sul Ross State University, then earned her DVM from Texas A&M University in 2004.
Dr. Izar first practiced medicine in Dallas, TX. After meeting her husband there, they relocated to his hometown of Ridgewood, NJ. Dr Izar has a special interest in canine and feline dentistry. She has advanced training in oral surgery and dental crown procedures which can , in certain cases, offer an alternative to tooth extraction.
In addition to her husband, Dr. Izar has three other animals. A dog named Griffin, a cat named Daisy, and a bearded dragon that sometimes responds to the name Athena. Griffin, an Australian cattle dog mix, is an awesome running partner and sometimes he gets to hang out at the office. Daisy, a self-proclaimed couch potato, rarely leaves the comfort of her bed.
